Massage School in Houston TX: Continuing Education Classes FAQ

Learn more about classes offered at our massage school in Houston TX through following answers to frequently asked questions.

Do I have to take a continuing education class?
Yes. Effective January 1, 2002, the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSDS) now requires all registered massage therapists to attend and complete at least 6-clock hours of acceptable continuing education during your annual renewal period. (One clock hour is defined as 50 minutes.) You need to attend the continuing education class by the last day of your birth month.

Do I need to send in proof that I attended a class year?
No. TDSHS conducts random audits that are mailed before a therapist's renewal date. Only audited therapists need to provide supporting documentation showing that you completed the continuing education class before your renewal date.

What courses are approved for Continuing Education in Texas?
Courses must have the following subject focus: the manipulation of soft tissue; business practices; professional ethics; anatomy; physiology; hydrotherapy; health and hygiene; advanced bodywork techniques acceptable to TDSHS; and courses designed to increase and enhance professional knowledge, skills, and competence in massage therapy. College courses on these subjects also qualify with one semester hour of credit equaling 15 clock hours of continuing education. Home study or correspondence courses are not acceptable within Texas for continuing education.

Who can teach continuing education classes in Texas?
