Houston School Massage FAQ

Where will I receive my massage?
At the Houston School of Massage, we offer warm, peaceful, private rooms with soothing and relaxing music for our student or intern massages. The rooms are equipped with the very comfortable Oakworks massage tables, which we believe are the best massage tables money can buy. The tables have adjustable head rests and are specifically designed for full body massage.

How much clothing do I have to remove?
It is the policy of Houston School of Massage that all clients wear underwear during the massage: briefs or shorts for men, panties for women. We do ask that our women clients remove their bras. If you, as a woman, feel you must wear your bra, please allow the student to unhook the bra during the back massage for the best possible massage. Our student therapists have been trained to always protect your modesty during your massage.

Will the therapist be present while I undress?
No. The student therapist will leave the room after telling you to lie face up or face down on the massage table. You can then undress, relax onto the table as instructed, and cover up with the clean linens.

Will I be covered during the massage?
Yes. It is the policy of the Houston School of Massage to use draping which is the use of the massage table linens to maintain your modesty and to keep you warm during the massage. As the student progresses through the massage, the body part (arm, leg, or back) will be uncovered or undraped, massaged, and then covered or redraped.

What do I need to do during the massage?
We request that you not talk during the massage so that you (and your ‘room-mate') can fully benefit from the massage. However, if you find that you are uncomfortable on the massage table, please tell your student therapist so that the necessary adjustments can be made. Please also tell the therapist if you need a lighter or deeper depth of touch or pressure at any time during the massage. Otherwise, the student therapist will either gently move you or quietly tell you what is needed during the massage, such as ‘lift your knees'.

What do I need to do after a massage?
First of all, we request that you honestly complete our post-massage evaluation form to assist the student therapist in improving the quality of his or her massage. Then make your next massage appointment with our Houston School of Massage interns. You can share the benefits from your massage by purchasing a gift certificate for a student massage for a family member or friend. We also would suggest that you drink plenty of water throughout the day following your massage to complete the flushing of metabolic wastes that began in the massage. Your student therapist can make a recommendation on how much water would be appropriate.
