Massage School in Houston: FAQ

The following answers to frequently asked questions about our massage school in Houston, Texas provide additional information about becoming a massage therapist through programs offered at the Houston School of Massage.

How do I know if massage is the career for me?
Do you like the idea of helping others through your touch? Do you like the idea of working part-time or full-time? Would you like to be your own boss? Do you like the idea of working for someone else as a respected health care professional? With a career in massage therapy, all of these are possible. As a massage therapist, you help people relax, relieve their pain, and assist them in improving their health. You can do this by setting up your own private practice or by working for employers such as spas, sport teams, cruise ships, and medical clinics.

Is there room for more massage therapists?
Studies have shown that massage is now considered by the general public as a valuable health service and consumers are paying billions of dollars every year for regular massage sessions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics considers massage therapy as a profession with good growth potential. Since most Americans still have yet to receive their first massage, there is large potential client pool.

How much money can I make?
Massage therapists in private practice charge an hourly rate in the range of $50-75. Working part-time with 2 clients a day, you could earn $500 per week. Working full-time with 4-6 clients a day, you could earn $1,000-5,000 per week. If you chose to work for someone else, you may receive a set salary or a percentage of that hourly rate. Therapists that chose to work at a spa can earn in the range of $30,000-$50,000 per year.
